Beautiful and delicious restaurant in the middle of midtown. Good for a business lunch or dinner, has a great bar!

What an incredible experience, from start to finish - we arrived early for our reservation and were offered drinks while we waited. The staff were all friendly, welcoming, and personable. For appetizers we ordered the steak tartare, smoked whitefish caesar, shrimp cocktail, and a dozen oysters. This was plenty for 5 people to share. I ordered the double cut Berkshire pork chop and it was phenomenal - perfectly cooked and a generous portion. For the dessert, I would highly recommend the house favorite, the chocolate cream pie. 5/5 stars

I would like to express my gratitude to the waiter - I am visiting NYC and my friend was asking about the typical American dish - I ordered the cheeseburger but the waiter also treated us with a mac & cheese which was awesome and a wonderful gift! I love this special attention - I have already been twice in Monkey Bar and I recommend it to everyone visiting and living in NYC :)

Such a great meal here. Ambiance is classic New York, martini was excellent. Service was fast and friendly. Treat yourself to the carrot cake at the end of your meal- you won’t regret.

I enjoyed my Monkey Bar so much, especially the wagyu cheeseburger and the monkey bread! The desserts were also delicious. If you have the opportunity to go to monkey bar, I suggest going because of the food, the atmosphere, and the great service. If I have the chance to, I will totally return!

Girlfriend and I came here for the first time for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. Food was unreal, this may be my new favorite spot in NYC now. If you come here you have to try the Waygu cheeseburger and the Truffle Mac n Cheese, it’s fantastic. Service was so good too! They were beyond attentive and always coming over to make sure everything was good. Will 100% be back soon!

If you've been wanting to try 4 Charles but are unable to snag one of those impossible difficult to get reservations I'd recommend giving Monkey Bar a shot. Owned by the same restaurant group as 4 Charles and Au Cheval (Hogsalt) Monkey Bar shines on its own between a unique (and fun) interior decor, impeccable service and great food. I asked the waiter whether the French Dip was the same as 4 Charles (as the cheeseburger was said to be the same as Au Cheval and 4 Charles) but didn't receive a clear answer. Having tried both I can say that the 4 Charles is still superior but Monkey Bar makes a valiant effort. The truffle 'monkey bread' was fantastic to start (I'd recommend pairing with the salad) and filling enough to be split 4 ways. The wagyu cheeseburger was also delicious, but nothing mind-blowing and fries come separately (unfortunately). Service is prompt and attentive (and not too overbearing) and drinks were fine (but not noteworthy). I think the service was enough to tip me to five stars here and the food on its own would be 4. Worth a trip!

I can only speak to the bar, which has a super fun old school NYC vibe (it originally opened in 1936!). The drinks menu is great and the desserts are really good too. While you can make reservations for the restaurant, the bar is walk in only - there's not a bunch of seating, so expect a 30+ minute wait if you're going at peak times. Definitely recommend the coconut margarita (comes in a cute coconut shell) as well as the banana split. The latkes are really good too!

Old school, classic New York restaurant with all the fixings. Top notch service, waiter will check in with you throughout the meal but largely leave you alone, they're happy to make any accommodations and fix any issues ASAP. Food is great! We had the whitefish Caesar which is as good as it sounds, the cheese burger, the French dip, the spicy shrimp pasta, the creamed spinach, fries and Mac and cheese. The only item I wouldn't order again was the spicy shrimp pasta, it was a bit one-note and honestly too spicy. The creamed spinach and truffle Mac and cheese are must-gets. Everyone in our group loved their meal. For dessert we had the chocolate cream pie and the ice cream sundae. Both good but nothing incredibly special. The ice cream sundae is fun because it comes with all the little toppings and candies on the side. Drinks were a bit weak and at $25 each I expected more. Recommend stopping by if you can snag a table.
